"On Outward Bound, counselors are there to support you with physical stuff that comes up and to push you as hard as they can. At other camps, counselors basically babysit while you do activities, but on Play in the Wild!, you're supported to do self-exploration."

Discover the Wild!

Play in the Wild! adventures invite you to expand awareness of life through meeting the challenges within yourself and with the earth:

  • Discover self-reliance that leads to power-with others
  • Transform judgmental thinking about yourself and others
  • Practice listening deeply and speaking your truth
  • Come to know and trust who you are
  • Initiate yourself in the Way of Nonviolence

Our staff is a dynamic team that includes Certified Nonviolent Communication Trainers, Outdoor Leadership Educators, Instructors for Peace and Reconciliation, Advanced First-Aid Responders, TEMBA and P.E.A.C.E. school teachers, artists, Zen monks, and punk band members. Together, they bring years of passion and experience in leading youth on treks of discovering their inner and outer wilderness.

This summer, 2009, Play in the Wild! invites all youth between the ages of 13 and 21, who are ready to immerse in living in community with others, to a special Youth Circle in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. We're calling it "A Force More Powerful: The Practice of Ahimsa in Life, Work, and Play" and it's all about taking this rising generation of youth to the next level. Want to know more?

We will not be offering a Family Wild! this year. If you are interested in an NVC camp for families and children under the age of 13, check out Family HEART Camp in the Washington D.C. area: www.familyheartcamp.org
